Life has been crazy busy the last few weeks and my time in the kitchen has really been limited.  Whenever I’ve had a few spare minutes lately, I find myself just relaxing and browsing through the social media apps on my phone to catch up with everyone.  I’ll be back in the kitchen soon y’all.  In the meantime, I thought I’d share my summer with you through pictures taken with my iPhone.

The sunset pictures above are the same view taken on the same evening looking toward Mt. Pisgah in western North Carolina.  The bottom one was taken not long after the sun went down.  A sunset in the mountains is absolutely amazing…once the sun starts to set on the horizon, it drops behind the mountains pretty quickly.

There are so many colorful flowers blooming during the summer.

The top picture is taken from the rocking chair porch at the Pisgah Inn in North Carolina.  The bottom picture was taken at Caesars Head State Park in South Carolina.

Don’t you just love going to the market in the summer (or anytime for that matter) for fresh fruits and veggies?  I did a double-take when I saw these radishes…they were huge and some were the size of tangerines!  Look at the purple okra…first time I’d ever seen that.

The color of the water was so beautiful on the east coast of Florida this bright and sunny day.

Summer comfort food to the max!  OK, so it’s not healthy…but it sure was good.  The dish in the bottom right corner holds fried black-eyed peas…oh my goodness!

These are the neatest wind chimes and would be perfect to hang in the kitchen.

One of my favorite things to do is thrift and antique store shopping.  You never know what kind of treasures you might find…and some at a great price!  These stores are a great source for food props.  Can’t you just see the green and white stove in a country farmhouse kitchen?  My husband’s grandmother used a kerosene heater like the one on the bottom in the bedroom to keep warm!

To top it all off, here are the sweets of summer!  I’m always taking my phone out to take pictures of yummy treats (no surprise, huh?).  The top row is from an old-fashioned bakery in North Carolina, the caramel apples are at Kilwin’s, the peanut butter chocolate ice cream is from an ice cream joint, and the rest are from 4Rivers Smokehouse (they have an awesome sweet shop).

What fun things did you do over the summer?  Tell me about them.

    Wonderful recap pictures!

Let’s see, a few of my friends got married, visited friends and family back east, finally discovered all the things I am allergic to through an allergy test, decided to go back to school.. Not a bad summer, but it sure passed by too quickly!

Robin, this post was exactly the break I needed just now — a virtual vacation, fun things to look at, engaging writing, and your sense of wonder in it all! Thank you! (Loved that coffee pot wind chime and all the good eats, too!)
