With the new year just hours away, I’ve been reflecting on highlights and memorable moments for Simply Southern Baking in 2013. Here’s what tops my list.
If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you probably saw my messages about being in the September issue of Southern Living Magazine. I was beyond thrilled when they contacted me several months ago and wanted to test one of my recipes for the magazine. Of course I said YES!!! We’re talking Southern Living y’all! As soon as I saw the issue at Costco, I bought two (and I still had one coming in the mail). Let me tell you, I was sooo excited…I’m talking excited like a kid at Christmas! I even got a e-mails from people I hadn’t seen in awhile congratulating me. Hubby was excited too and was bragging on me. What could be better than that?
It was happy dance time when I found out I was included on Shari’s Berries Top 100 Dessert Lovers to Follow on Twitter list. What an honor to be included on this list with so many amazing food bloggers. That’s me above inside the yellow square. Squeal!!!!
While tweeting during the first episode of The American Baking Competition earlier in the year, little did I know what would be in store for me after that. As a result of my tweets, I was contacted to be part of conference call interviews with one of the judges and two of the eliminated contestants. It was a lot of fun to be part of these calls and get the behind the scenes scoop. I’ve been following some of the contestants on social media since then. Francine is coming out with a cookbook next year and I can’t wait to get my hands on it! If you missed my post, click here.
My Cookies & Cream Crunch Cookie Bites post for Christy Jordan of Southern Plate is definitely my most memorable of the year. This recipe was part of a surprise virtual potluck I coordinated for her with several other food bloggers. Christy broke both of her legs as a result of a horseback riding accident and definitely had some challenges in the kitchen during this time. She is such an inspiration to so many people and we just wanted to do something special for her. As I was busy making sure everyone’s post was up that morning, I noticed Christy had left a comment on my post (see above). Well, I was a tearful mess after reading that…I mean tears and tears! It was a grateful and happy cry…it felt good to do this for someone so well-deserving. All the bloggers involved were happy to be a part of this.
What was the highlight or most memorable moment of 2013 for you? I’d love to hear it.
Happy New Year’s Eve!
Welcome to Simply Southern Baking. I’m Robin, the girl behind the recipes wishing I had more time to spend in the kitchen!
