Snippets & Snapshots of 2012 – Part 1
My life has been really busy the last few weeks and I’ve not had a chance to get back in the kitchen to bake goodies to share with y’all (even though there are lots of ingredients in my pantry just waiting to be made into many yummy new treats). It’s sure not due to lack of recipe ideas…that’s something that’s tumbling around in my head all the time. And remember, I did give myself the gift of time last month.
Until the sweet smells of baking fill my house again, I thought I’d share the past year with you through pictures taken with my phone. The “intention” with some of these photos was to create individual posts (get it?…”intention”…which didn’t happen). Anyway, since the new year has started, it’s out with the old and in with the new! You get to see the “old” pictures so I can make way for new ones this year. At first I thought I would be able to include all these in one post, but I soon realized there are so many shots that this would turn into two parts!
Food and fun are pictured above. The music, singing and clogging at Shindig on the Green in Asheville is all around great family entertainment. Our feet were stomping and hands were clapping. Believe it or not, I actually resisted that yummy funnel cake at a craft show. What about those plates full of food from Wade’s Family Restaurant in Spartanburg, South Carolina? Those were MY plates of food on two different visits. I tell you, this is my absolute favorite place to go for down-home country food. It’s like eating Sunday dinner at Grandma’s house! You must stop for a meal there if you’re ever in that neck of the woods…you’ll be so glad you did.
Beautiful North Carolina Waterfalls – ahhh, the stress just melts away!
Sunrise & Sunset – The top sunrise shot was taken from the car window on I-95 in Georgia early one morning (I took several shots while hubby was driving…not bad for a motion shot, huh?). The bottom sunset picture is in North Carolina looking toward Mt. Pisgah. We weren’t sure we’d see the sunset this night since it was so cloudy, but the sky opened up and Mr. Sun made a brief appearance.
This outdoor chapel at Camp Greenville in South Carolina is also called “Pretty Place” because of it’s amazing view. You can visit during the day if there if there are no events scheduled. Can you just imagine a wedding at this place? One day we hope to make it back there just before the sun comes up…the pictures I’ve seen at sunrise on line are breathtaking! I wanted to get a shot of the front without people in it, but it was too busy the day we were there.
Covered bridges in South Carolina. The stone one reminds me of something you’d find near a castle.
I just love rambling around in thrift stores, antique shops and flea markets. You never know what you’ll find. The Jewel T dishes in the top right corner remind me of my sweet Granny. She had a pitcher and some bowls from this collection. I bet that cast iron cookware has made some mighty tasty recipes! Check out those aluminum ice trays. I remember those when I was growing up. You’d lift back the lever and crackkkk went the ice…who else remembers these?
Just had to snap these clever signs from a few different places (“Bless their Hearts” is a magnet). I’m partial to lower left one…Do the thing that you love. What’s your pick?
I hope you enjoyed this partial look back at 2012. Stay tuned for Part 2…coming soon!
Wishing all of you a bright new year!

How did you make your collages? Do you use an editing program and up load the collage to your blog or is there a plugin you use to make them withim your blog?
Happy New Year!
Thanks Jackie. I took a trip down memory lane when pulling this pictures together…relived it all over again! I used PicMonkey to make these collages. It’s a fun program to use and has several free templates. Happy New Year to you too. Hope to see you at a FBF this year.
Nice post. Thanks for sharing your year!
I’m tickled that you look at old cooking pots & pans & utensils and wonder what the previous owner(s) made with them — me, too! Such beautiful scenery, inspiring thoughts, and platefuls of Southern goodness… wishing supper would hurry up, lol!
It’s so much fun browsing through thrift stores looking at kitchen stuff. When I’ve found things we had when I was younger, it makes me smile!
Hi Robin,
I grew up eating at Wades and it does taste like home to me! My grandma had the jewel tea dishes as well and the dishes and pans so remind me of learning to cook at her house. Can you share where you were shopping? I would love to get a piece of that pattern to remind me of her. Thank you for bringing back memories!
Hi Lisa. I saw the dishes at an antique shop on old 19-23 between Asheville and Clyde. I don’t remember what town it was in; only that it was on the right side of the road heading west. Hope this helps.
