Two of my favorite bakeries plus 18 more from my blogging friends.
Do you have a favorite bakery in your town that you frequent? Maybe you’ve got one or two you always make it a point to stop at when you’re on vacation or visiting family. I thought it would be fun to compile a list of bakeries from my blogging friends and asked them to share their favorites with me to pass on to you.
Two bakeries I highly recommend are in western North Carolina. McFarlan Bakery is in Hendersonville and Well-Bred Bakery is in Asheville and Weaverville. If you’re ever in the area, I strongly suggest you stop by one of these bakeries for a scrumptious treat or two or three….go ahead and buy a bunch!
McFarlan’s (below) has been a favorite stop for several years now. When you walk in the door and take your first whiff, it’s sugar shock BIG TIME! This from-scratch bakery has been around for over 75 years and they know their stuff. They have over 160 different items to choose from every day. You’ll find cookies, pies, cakes, pastries, breads and so much more.
I can’t resist McFarlan’s Chocolate Chewies (above, lower right)….they have a shiny crackly top with a soft brownie-like center. We were fortunate enough to get there one time when they hadn’t been out of the oven long. Mmmmmm….so good!
Well-Bred Bakery & Café (below) is a gem I just discovered last year after attending the Food Blog Forum Asheville Conference. The original store is in Weaverville, but the one my fellow food bloggers and I discovered was in the Biltmore Village. This place has amazing goodies that are not to be missed. You’ll find a selection of sweet and savory items including cakes, cookies, pastries, sandwiches, breakfast specialties and more.
The cookies at Well-Bred are gigantic….you could share or eat half and save the rest for later. See how big and thick the cookie is I’m holding above? It’s Chocolate Orange and my favorite treat from there so far. On the lower right is their Mountain Éclair. That’s an appropriate name as there were six of us sharing this and we couldn’t even finish it. It might look small in the picture, but trust me….it’s huge! We had all just finished breakfast, but I’m sure we would’ve polished it off if we hadn’t been so full.
