I am simply a southern girl with a passion for baking and making all kinds of sweets. I have loved being in the kitchen since I was young. Given that I come from a long line of talented southern cooks and bakers, it just seems natural to carry on the family tradition.
When I was a teenager, I saved recipes from magazines. Not too many years later, I started collecting cookbooks and haven’t stopped yet! I’d rather read a cookbook or cooking magazine than anything else and many nights fall asleep, cookbook in-hand, dreaming of my next creation! My favorite cookbooks are those that feature cookies, desserts and baked goods. I’m always looking through my extensive collection for inspiration in creating my own recipes. Even though I’ve taken a few cooking and baking classes, I am mostly a self-taught cook.
I have a serious sweet tooth and am a white chocolate fanatic! My family and friends always expect me to bring something sweet to gatherings even if I’m bringing some other type of dish. They wait with anticipation to see what type of dessert “surprise” might arrive with me.
I had fun competing in cooking contests for several years. In fact, I was a finalist three times in the Pillsbury Bake-Off and twice in the Mix it Up! With Betty Cookie Mix Contest (see Cooking Wins below).
I also have recipes that have been published in several cookbooks, including two in Paula Deen’s Just Desserts Cookbook.
You could say that the kitchen is my happy place and I look forward to you joining me here!
About Simply Southern Baking
Simply Southern Baking brings all my food passions together – sharing recipes, talking about food, adventures, traditions and memories.
The recipes you find here are simple, no-fuss and family-friendly. In addition to recipes made from scratch, you’ll find recipes that are semi-homemade using mixes and other convenience products to speed up preparation when time is short (which for many of us can be every day)! Even though I mostly consider myself a baker and dessert maker, you’ll find a sprinkling of other comfort food recipes from time to time as some things are so good I just have to share them.
My adventures away from the kitchen related to food may include visits to my favorite bakeries, food places, farmer’s markets, etc.
Some of my food-related memories and traditions of growing up in the south will make you laugh and others are just plain special.
My hope is to brighten your visit with a bit of southern sunshine…enjoy your stay and come back often!
Wishing you sweet baking dreams!
