In this season of giving, have you ever given a gift to yourself? I’m sure a few of you have found something at one time or another during your holiday shopping that you couldn’t resist and bought as a gift for yourself. I’ll admit it if you will. This year, I’m giving myself a gift that money can’t buy. I’m giving myself the gift of time.

One of my favorite pastimes is browsing through the cookbook section of my local library bookstore. You never know what you’ll come across at a hard-to-beat price. I actually found The Pioneer Woman’s first cookbook there some time back for $1.00…can you believe it? I grabbed that up right away before anyone else could!
During one of my library excursions, I came across an almost new set of Country Baker Cookbooks by Country Living. Since I already have these cookbooks, I’m sharing my fortunate find that day by giving this set away to one of you to add to your collection (or to give as a gift). This hard-to-find cookbook set was published in 1993 and is probably no longer in print. With that being said, this would be a wonderful addition to any cookbook collector’s library. Each book in this 4-volume boxed set consists of 88 pages.

On my second trip ever to Trader Joe’s, I picked up a bag of ridge cut sweet potato chips with my stash of goodies. Since we don’t have a TJ’s near us, I made good use of the trip and filled up my shopping cart like there was no tomorrow (I know I’m not the only one without a TJ’s close by that does this, right?). Anyway, while munching on these chips, the bright idea came to me to add them to cookies. They are “sweet” potato chips…why not?
After thinking about these cookies for a few days, it was time to decide what else to add to the mix. What about cinnamon chips? Yes. Toffee bits? Oh yeah…I’m on to something now. Hmm…what spice could bring all this together? Apple pie spice…that’s it!

So…you can imagine how excited I was to find a recipe for this cake a few years ago when browsing through one of my cookbooks sitting on the shelf. Of course, with 8 regular size Milky Way candy bars inside the cake, you know it had to be good…and it was!
