What comes to mind when you think of an orange creamsicle? Maybe your thoughts drift to the ice cream truck driving slowly down the street with music playing loud enough for everyone to hear. You had just enough time to get your money before it drove by your house. OK, I might be dating myself now, but I remember these days and the neighborhood kids stepping up to the window to buy a cool treat on a hot summer day. Perhaps you begged to stop at the corner store and ran straight to the ice cream case. Ahh…the sweet memories of childhood!

How about taking a trip back in time with my new Orange Creamsicle Rice Krispies Treats? You’ve got two treats in one…the ever-popular Rice Krispies Treats combined with the taste of an old-fashioned orange creamsicle. Give these a try…you’ll feel like a kid again (and we all want to feel younger, right?)! Be warned – they disappear fast!
These treats are perfect for Easter with the pretty peach icing on top…just the color of orange creamsicles. Wrap them up individually and tuck away in Easter baskets for kids of all ages. You’ll see lots of smiles when the “kids” open these up! Better save a few for yourself too.
Orange Creamsicle Rice Krispies Treats
Yield: 24 squares
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter
- 1 (10 oz.) bag miniature marshmallows
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2/3 cup orange cake mix (I used Duncan Hines Orange Supreme Cake Mix)
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 2 cups (12 oz. package) white vanilla baking chips
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter, softened
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon orange extract
- 3 to 4 tablespoons orange juice
- Peach gel food color (or yellow and pink)*
Directions
- Spray 13×9-inch pan with non-stick cooking spray.
- In large pot, melt butter over medium-low heat. Add marshmallows and stir to coat. Continue stirring until marshmallows are melted. Remove from heat.
- Add vanilla; stir. Add orange cake mix and mix well. Add Rice Krispies and vanilla chips. Stir until cereal and vanilla chips are well coated (vanilla chips will melt slightly).
- Using a large buttered spoon or spatula, spread and press mixture evenly into prepared pan. Cool completely.
- In medium bowl, combine all icing ingredients except food color and stir until smooth. Dip a toothpick into the food color and then swirl it into the icing; stir well. Add color a little at a time until the desired shade is achieved, stirring after each addition of color (use a new toothpick each time you add color). Once desired shade is reached, spread evenly over top of Rice Krispies Treats. Let stand for about an hour or until icing is set. Cut into squares.
Notes
*I used yellow and pink gel food color to tint my icing. I put a small amount of each color on a piece of wax paper and added each color a little at a time with a toothpick until I got a pretty peach color.

Hi Jerica. I’ve not had any issues when making this recipe. After the butter and marshmallows are melted, it is immediately removed from the heat and then the other ingredients are stirred in. Once the mixture is placed in the pan, it needs to cool completely on the counter (not refrigerator) just like regular krispie treats. Then the icing is applied and stands until the icing is set.
I followed this recipe exactly but for some reason it melted and is just a soggy rice crispy? What did i do wrong. i even put it in the fridge to try to harden it.
Hi Linda. I’ve never made this with any other flavor cake mix besides orange. I used the Duncan Hines brand and don’t know if anyone else makes an orange flavor.
I am wanting to make Orange Dreamsicle Crispy Treats cannot find orange cake mix can I use another cake mix.
Wow, I never in a zillion years would have thought to mix up marshmallow squares with cake mix as a flavor. 🙂 Love it!
